Military personnel are not allowws to drink beer or alcoholic beverages in some Islamic nations like Iraq, because its against military regulations, and the military doesnt allow it, because they try to use it as an effort to show respect to the host countrys culture. Muslim nations believe in not consuming alcohol, and its disrespectful if the US did it in there homeland, so we try to give them a little respect to show them we are the good guys. Realistically many military people 'smuggle' alcohol in, and drink it in private with friends. civilians can drink alcohol in iraq, because they are not subject to military regulation. There are some military bases that you can purchase and drink beer in certain places. Such as a bar in Djibouti, Africa, but you are only allowed 3 beers each person.

The only place I know under somewhat American control where they sell alcohol in Iraq is the Green Zone (where the mercenary contractors have been known to have all night parties) and even then it is only sold to civilians, no service member can purchase it (as a matter of fact I saw a soldier arrested by an MP for having an Iraqi buy some for him).

Nope, no alcohol is sold or served in US bases, but therre's plenty of "Near Beer" (non-alcoholic beer) and Iraqis sell booze all over the place, even though Islam forbids consumption of Alcohol.

Yes they do. Best place to get a cold beer is down by the pool. Also, the beer at the golf courses is usually served very cold. I prefered to drink my beer at the day Spa's that they have on every FOB, because the beer is served to us by Playboy Bunnies.

Shouldn't you be more concerned with the soldiers, and people's well being, rather than their alcoholic beverages..? Most military don't go to iraq because they want to...

Alcohol is prohibited to US forces, the Brits and Auzzies on the other hand get lit up. though I'm pretty sure they bring it themselves, I've never seen a place where they sell it, even on big bases
