What gift would you take to this party?

Hi. My daughter's new cheerleading coach is having a "meet and greet" swim party to introduce all the girls on the squad and their parents to each other. What sort of hostess gift would you take to this party? We've never met, so alcohol is definitely out.

It is difficult to buy for someone we really do not know, isn't it? Make sure she does not have allergies, and send flowers later. A hostess gift to me means something usefull that can be used to hostess with, or flowers sent after the event. She probably follows a healthy diet, so homemade food gift choices are limited, she may even not drink caffeine, you might want to check. A basket of teas and/or coffees, a cute chip and dip plate, a cheese server, all good gifts. i would feel bad if I were the only one to show up with a hostess gift, I personally would think that people would feel that I am trying to shine, or garner more attention for my kid..
If you wish, just a nice thank you card sent later would be perfectly polite. You could always give her a thank you gift at the end of the year, and for that, your choices could be broader, and could be made more personal.

Even though you have never met I would say never bring alcohol to a function that involves children. Maybe you could just bring a cake or something everyone could share at the meet and greet. It would probably be appreciated. At this kind of party hostess gifts probably are not needed.
