My cat Rocky is going to have knee surgery tomorrow, and will be on crate rest for 6 weeks! I've got his favorite bed, a litterbox, and food/water bowls ready for the crate. What else can I do to make him comfy during his confinement?? He has to be as quiet as possible so his leg can heal.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas and kind words. Rocky got through his surgery with flying colors and will come home tomorrow! I hope he likes his temporary digs. I'll be adding a few toys to play with and getting out the spare blanket to cover the crate for him. The radio is a great idea too! It was really hard to pick a best answer.

Some toys will help him when he is bored, in the crate he can bat them around at his leisure, and give him plenty of love n attention so he doesn't go stir crazy, if he gets agaitated too much ask your vet for a mild sedative to keep him calm while he heals(some cats DO not do well at all being closed up in crate)Gl and hope all goes well.Thumper

surprised no ones mentioned this but im a certified vet asst so i know more than the average person make sure it is dark after surgery their eyes become very sensitive and their ears too so keep it quiet as possible dont try too feed them to much right right away and just keep an eye on them make sure their not licking the wounds or stiches keep all other animals and kids so forth away from them and keep plenty of water near bye hope the little guy recovers well gl

Well I heard once that cats like to watch things happen.like for example looking out the window is their tv. So I would suggest buying a little aquarium with lots of different fish (or even just 2 goldfish) and place them in a place were he can see them but not hunt them. It will keep him a little entertained. Hope this helps :)

Can't think of anything else you can do. When i go to work i leave a radio on to keep my cat comfy and not feeling alone. That might help if you won't be there. He'll be just fine.

sounds like you have it all covered. just remember to get him out as much as the vet allows so that he can sit on your lap and be held and petted. maybe a stuffed toy in there to snuggle with if he is used to snuggling with you at night. best of luck to you and Rocky

Awe, that's so sweet! What a lucky cat to have someone taking such good care of him! It sounds like he has everything he needs. Maybe just throw him a couple of cat treats every now and then :-)

They should prescribe him medication that helps enormously. Also, catnip could help :) Oh, and cats tend to sleep when they feel content. Make sure he has acess to some sunshine and good kitty treats.

Just spend as much time as you can nearby, because he will want to be as close to you as possible, because you're his favorite person in the world.

It is so good that you care. Sounds like you have done it all, now just keeping his environment calm is all that is needs while he recovers.
