My husband is from El Salvador and his mom treats him and his two other brothers more like romantic relationships than sons, I have two sons who are still young and I feel it is strange to be overly affectionate, I'm talking about more than hugs, kisses and snuggles. Is this a cultural thing or what?

When you say "more than hugs, kisses, and snuggles," do you mean sex??!!?!?

If that's what you're talking about, then its horribly inappropriate. And in many jurisdictions, completely illegal...even if they are both adults.

(An older woman in Toledo was recently sentenced for having a sexual relationship with her 29 year old son. http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070716/NEWS02/70716022 Gross!)

I’m not going to judge you, and don’t listen to the rude, immature comments people are making. This is not a healthy situation for you or him. My advice would be to stop any physical contact with him immediately and give yourself some space away from him. You may also consider talking to your mom and your mom’s boyfriend about the situation. There is a fine moral line here, and it I believe it is one that should never be crossed. Clearly your mom and his dad have been together for a long time and don’t plan to part it would seem. You need to consider how your relationship with this person that could wind up being your step brother will manifest itself at family events should you have a falling out. This type of situation is going to put a lot of undue strain on you and him in the long run, not to mention both of your parents. It’s best to call it off ASAP.

What is "more"?

On the issue of affection towards people some are lacking in nurture. You may want to accept that and make it a project. I'm not noting to give your son his way all the time and also not advising negative behavior be ignored...trust me a hug doesn't cancel out authority. Does your husband hug his son? You should be following his lead if so....and hug your MIL too : )
