i was looking at really quick cars for my first car under $18k... i was looking at an '04-'05 wrx sti..i know its a lot of power but i think i can handle it, hopeful atleast. for about a month i'll be driving before i get my license with my parents, getting used to the power and stick.

the question in all of this is if it would be a decent first car (assuming insurance would be stupid for it) and first time stick driver..also reliability and clutch durability.

a new wrx sti would be hard to find under 18k. Anyway insurance wouldnt be bad because its a four door car. Its also all wheel drive so if you do launch it, you probabaly wont go out of control...unless your just a horrible driver. I have seen many Trans Ams, Camaros.and sometimes cobras for about 18k.

Subarau is nice,,but will probably need clutch soon,(depends on how quick you learn about clutches) Also there are alot of automatics out there that are really quick. Monte Carlo SS for example Also Grand Prix GT.Also will be alot cheaper in price that a Subarau. Can get a fully loaded MONTE for about 14K. Also insurance would be cheaper because these are AMERICAN cars. You will be charged 65-75 % more on insurance just because the car is an IMPORT. Just remember FAST is nice,,but all it takes is ONE stupid move & that car will eat your lunch,,(even the automatics),,Insuranse stastics say 85% of first time drivers will total there car in 8 months,,of those 40% do not live to tell about it. Have 3 kids myself ALL 3 wrecked their cars within 6 months,,LUCKILY all 3 lived to tell about it.

I do not think anyone should have their own car at 16, 18 at the earliest.

Good car though.. EXTREMELY RELIABLE!

I have a subaru impreza wrx 2005 and a 99 mustang gt

the subaru is a pocket rocket but nothing too special. Maybe more power than your friends' cars.
As for being able to handle the "power" I think you will be fine, as long as you avoid showing off. Your young though, mistakes will happen im sure!

It's too much of a car for a first car... It will sap all of your money in many ways.. high purchase cost (monthly payments), high insurance costs, speeding tickets, upgrades (stock is never enough with these types of cars), and maintenance (you'll drive it too hard)...

Consider someting more conservative, and it will give yo an opportunity to learn what it is you really wast / need.

It's not a bad first car, but you know the guy who had it before you drove the crap out of it and you have to wonder what kind of condition it's in. Have it thoroughly inspected and test driven before you buy.
