I was just watching the movie Singles Ward and when the guys tell his friends that he's going to Boise, Idaho the friends are like dissapointed or something... like they feel sorry for him. And then when he goes to the store and tells the lady that he's going to a mission and the lady asks where and he says Boise the lady's reaction was like weeeeird!
Why is this? does that mission have something in special?
Am I missing something? :P

I actually use to live in the Boise Idaho Mission area and our missionaries rocked! I luved those guys.
Nothing is wrong with it. It's just that it's in the USA without any particualar moticable challenge. You have to be a missionary in the mission to understand the challenge.
In my last ward when I was a part of the mission I'd always ask every new missionary if they'd seen SIngles Ward then ask them they're reaction.
Awesome mission though.

There's nothing wrong with going on a mission to Boise, it's just that a lot of missionaries want to go to foreign places because they think it might be cooler. There's a lot of Mormons in Idaho already too, but of course there is always converting to be done everywhere right? Anyways, the people that made the movie were probably kind of making a joke that he was going to a "boring" place on his mission.
And yeah, Kirby Heybourne-- Way cute!

There is nothing wrong about Boise per se. It just that it does not hold the same glamour as some remote foreign country or other exotic place might hold. To many Utah Mormons, going on a mission to Boise would be akin to going to your back yard or somewhere that you have already been to.

I love that movie! Well the Bosie Idaho mission would be like being called to Utah. There are already a lot of Mormons an its not a exciting place. Kind of like Utah is not very exciting either. You live in Maryland right? You must have someplace like that by you.

I live in Boise but I'm a Pagan. There is a large Mormon population here. Some of the subdivisions are totally Mormon-occupied. Maybe they felt sorry for him because he wasn't going to have much of a learning experience trying to convert people. Kind of like sending him to Salt Lake.... no challenge.

It's just a sucky place to go. Missionaries usually want to go somewhere outside of the U.S. And frankly Boise is just too close to home. That is the joke.

It's just because it's in the states and not overseas. Everyone seems to think that overseas missions are better than ones stateside.

The same reason that in Scotland, no one wants to go to England or vice versa. It doesn't evoke a "wow" response, it's an "oh..."
