Oh, my goodness!!! I just noticed tonight when I was giving her a bath. I went through her hair and foung 2 live bugs, and she's got 50+ eggs, or whatever those things are that stick to the strand of hair.
I've never had to deal with something like this before.
What's EVERYTHING I should do to get rid of these bugs, concerning toys, carpet, blankets, matresses...anything that may be infected?
I'm going to the store tomorrow to buy the shampoo, or anything I need to get rid of this.
Is she too young to use this shampoo on? Any other products I should buy?
Anyone with firsthand experience, what did you do to get rid of them?
Any home remedies I could try until I can get to the store tomorrow?
Thanks a lot for all your help!

Those shampoos are sooooo harmful, you might as well spray bug killer in their hair. I would not reccomend on younger children unless it is an infestation. DO NOT spray the lice spray on couches, it is a class C, and can hurt living things as well as unborn children. Bad around pregnant women. All studies show that overboard cleaning won't help anymore than time will. Lice will die off of a human head within 2 days...they need blood to survive. Just clean sheets in hot water, vacuum, place non washable things in a bag for 2 weeks. Lice are species specific.....they will NOT transfer to your pets. Head lice will stay on your head, they will not go to your pubic area, as the hair is a different texture and they couldn't walk around even if they wanted to. They do not jump or fly. For safe treatment that will work, use a metal nit comb through hair with conditioner every 3 or 4 days.

It can be difficult to get rid of , but don't freak out, it can be done. Since you can't get to the store until tomarrow, you could try a home remedy, my favorite is olive oil, you just douse the hair in it and put some sort of cap or plastic bag on it for an hour, this suffocates the lice, then you can pull the eggs and bugs out with a comb. this is also good if you're not fond of the idea of putting pestisides on your childs head, the only thing about this is you need to do it several days in a row to be sure it's all gone.
For bedding and stuffed animals you can wash them in hot water and dry on the highest heat cycle for at least 60 min. go ahead and take everything that you plan on washing and put it in a large trash bag till you can actually put it in the wash to keep the bugs all in one place.
they have a spray you can buy at walmart, for the mattresses, couches, other soft furniture and the carpets, then just vaccuum really well and cover the mattresses with a mattress cover when your finished, in case she ever gets it back this makes the clean up lots easier, you can also buy these at walmart.
soak combs and brushes in hot hot water, or water and bleach solution.
can't think of anything else you might need to know. hope this helped.
oh and ps, pets can be carriers of lice, so treat them with a flea bath also if you have any pets.

wow, this really sucks for you! I totally sympathise as I've gone through this with my daughters about 25 yrs ago- they ALL had hair done to their butts!- and my grandson when he was about 2. They get them so easily in a daycare setting, but you can get them almost anywhere.
Now then- I would have gone out to Walmart right away, kept the kid awake and started the treatment TONIGHT, BUT since you didn't... get something like RID and make sure it hasthe little lice comb to comb out the "nits"- the little eggs that are glued to the hair shaft. Just follow the package directions. It's not too hard, but it DOES have to be left on for quite awhile so plan some activity to divert her attention during that time! As for clothing. bedding, stuffed toys, pillows, etc.- EVERYTHING needs to either go into a HOT dryer for at least 20 minutes OR you need to bag it up in plastic bags and leave it there for 2 weeks. Make sure you wash all washable items, like bedding in HOT water first. It is the heat that will kill them.
Also, you may want to redo the treatment in 2 weeks just to make sure you get them all- that's how long it takes for any leftover eggs to hatch.
Good luck- and G-d bless!!!

When the shampoo does not paintings it often signifies that the supply of the infestation has no longer been eliminated so although the shampoo works for the second, the youngster instantly will get the lice once more. You need to blank the condominium, pillows, beds, the whole lot to be certain you could have gotten rid of the location the lice are coming from. It might also be someplace external the residence or at university.

There is this stuff called lice free. It may adgitate her scalp it did my 4 yr olds. mayo or vaseline will suffocate the lice. And tif you use the lice comb will it is in it gets most. Not all. You can also use white vinegar to get the nits out. It loosens the eggs. It is ok to pour 1 cup off vinegar with 4 cups of warm water. That is what the dr's told me to do. My daughters hair is down to her butt. I also did it in sections. Anything oily that can stick to the scalp and suffocate the lice will work. Also you may want to just vacum and vacum and then buy plastic sheets till you are sure they are gone.

ok so my family has had it a few times and founf out that the shampoo can give you bad sores, we used maynaise, it kills and the oils in help with getting her bugs out. cover hair with it ad use a shower cap for a half hour then wash hair(probably a few times) make sure that it does not get in her eyes. lice can onlu survive one mattresses, carpets and clothes for i think 72 hours. Wash all blankets in hot!!! water. Carpet clean the carpets and get the lice killing spray for the mattresses and/or the carpets. Also make sure you pick out all the bug eggs so to make sure they are dead so some possible live ones dont hatch. Ask around to some doctors offices to get her checked out to be sure you got it all. I have found that the combs dont really get out the bugs very well. Go through her hair in little sections, pinning back what you have went through already. And pull all them out. You may have to go through it 4-5 times to be sure you got it all. Best of Luck!

My daughter has had nits before. Firstly I wouldn't waste my money buying one of the many nit treatment shampoos. Many of them don't work and the nits are resistant to alot of the pesticides that are in them
The best and cheapest thing to do is get conditioner and a fine tooth nit comb. Put a heap of conditioner in her hair, like coat it. It suffocated the nits. Then after 20 minutes comb through the hair with the nit comb, making sure you clear the dead nits and eggs off it all the time.
Once you have combed through all her hair, rinse out the conditioner. Then do it all again a couple of days later just to make sure you haven't missed any.
Wash all linen and if possible put in dryer or dry in the sun.

Yeah, we had that once years ago and it was a pain. My brother had an immediate allergy reaction and it took months to heal it.

Here's some help.
http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/welcome/treatmentguides/head_lice.html

Wash all bed clothing. The heat of the dryer should even kill the eggs. We didn't do anything with the carpet or couches other than vacuum. I recall I even vacuumed the teddy bears.
