Ok I have had an industrial for almost a year now. The actual piercing itself wasnt that bad for me. It varies since no one has the same pain tolerance. Just remember to take a deep breath and breath out when they pierce you. Pain lasts 2 seconds and then it is over and you will feel great having done it. The rest of the day my ear was hot and throbbed but was no way unbearable and the next day i could not even tell it was there.
What people don't really realize is the time and effort that needs to be taken to keep an industrial. For the first 2 weeks it will be extremely painful when it gets bumped. Be prepared to learn how to put on your shirts more carefully! When it gets bumped it throbs and is sore for maybe an hour if i remember correctly. After about 3 months the majority of the pain is over. My ear is still not fully healed and still gets crusties like it did after 3 months.
As for cleaning. Use a plain antibacterial soap to wash your piercing 2-3 times a day (for the first 3 months or so - then if theres no problems can go down to 1-2 times a day). If you can move your piercing and get some soap in there. But dont force it if it doesnt want to move (for the first week or two this will also be slightly painful from touching). Make sure to rinse it out with hot water.
Another highly recommended thing to do is sea salt soaks before you do soap at least twice a day. Take a cup of hot water with a tablespoon of sea salt and hold it up to your ear (over a sink) for 10 minutes. This helps promote blood flow to heal and pulls out any bad bacteria. Especially recommended when the piercing is irritated or infected since it makes it feel so much better. Then make sure to rinse really good to make sure no salt is left around the piercing. Do not twist the piercing when soaking since you do not want any salt to get stuck in there.
Most important cleaning advice is do NOT listen to anyone that says to use hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol to clean your piercing. These are overkill and dry out piercings making them much harder to heal.
Another thing you should know is that I've had my piercing for 11 months and its still not fully healed. I tried changing the jewelry which made my piercings very angry and i almost got a keloid. I got a fluid filled bump that took days of extra cleaning to get rid of. Other than that I've been good with the regular cleanings to keep it from infection and also dont talk on the phone or sleep on that side. After 11 months my body really wants to sleep on that side and for me to do so i have to cup my ear with my hands...not very comfortable..If I knew then what I know now I would have never gotten this piercing. There is so much responsibility you have to consider before you get one. Don't get me wrong I love my piercing and am proud of what I went thru to keep it. Just wish I hadn't believed everyone when they said it would take 3-6 months to heal..
Just remember everyone is different, you may have a lot easier time than I did! If you want one and are prepared for the responsibilities go get it!

I don't have mine done but I do have my upper ear and tragus pierced. I don't think it would hurt too bad. Some people have have too small of an ear and the industrial wouldn't even fit. (Mine is too small) All piercers are different and suggest different ways to clean and take care of it. Just listen to what they tell you and if they don't give you a paper about it, ask for one. Make sure you listen to their directions though because I work with a girl who took hers out and scar tissue grew and now it looks like she has a HUGE mole on her ear.
Just make sure you really want it and and go to a clean piercing place that uses sterile needles.

I won't answer this until I look up "industrial" and see what part of the body that is.
