This is a great question!
I believe it is because "religion" is man made, so there are many. God is Davine and the creator, so he is the beginning and the end. God is pure and truth; however, religion is as clear as mud. Religion fails, divides, robs, nurtures, uplifts, endures, commits heinous acts, deceives, revitalizes, enriches, save souls, and disappoints.
You see there are many philosophically different religions, but they all give credit to the (one) creator.
Religion was born out of humans need to answer science and much more.
Peace be unto you brother. And again your question is very deep and thoughtful. You must be very bright.

The problem is that religion is man made, and man uses it to control people. Wars are fought over religion, because you do not worship God in the same way.
If people were to concentrate on a spiritual connection to God, rather then a set of rules or restrictions for worship, then there would be less problems. Until man figures that out, and stop trying to impose their beliefs on others there will be wars, and conflicts.
There is no difference between Jehovah, Allah, and Yahweh. They are all the same God. The Ashanti Tribe from Ghana calls him Oname. When Moses asked God's name, God replied I AM that I AM. Moses was also the first to refer to him simply as Lord. The Rastafarians refer to God as Jah.

But what if there's only ONE path? And most religions talk about enlightenment, but that is the key point though. Let's say I have a case of hand grenades. Now only one is real. Now I tell you to pick out the real one out of a bunch of fakes. They look the same. Now put yourself in a situation where it's important to pick the right one.
We all die. It's a fact. Now although some refuse to accept it, there could be another side. Atheists and Evolutionists dismiss the supernatural. But here's the thing: Most of the population believes in these things, be it UFOs, ghosts, magic, Tarot cards, etc. Just because one group of "*scientists" refuse to believe in the supernatural doesn't mean they ALL do.

There is only one true First Source and Center, Our Father in Heaven. However, there are other personalities as in the Original Trinity. Yes, human beings find God through many different ways.

I have no problem with sincere monotheists of all religions. In fact, they are in a loose sense *Muslims* (submitters to God's will). But because they are taking (a riskier) different path they are called people of the Book (Jews and Christians).
Allah says
"...any who believe in God and the last day and do good deeds..shall have their just reward with their lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve."
Not to say Islam isn't the best path, but...to each their own way.
Good point btw. Peace.

There is 1 God and then there is satan. he wants to be God and tries every way possible to deceive as many people as possible and what better way to do just that then by coming up with all the different religions to confuse and frustrate people.
I truely believe that if all the 'religions' of the world would begin to focus on God and not what they are supposed to wear, or how many years they have to ride around on their bikes, or how many hail mary's they have to say, or how many dances they can not attend, or how much bleach they should add to their water, or how long their hair has to be, or how many infidels they have to kill...this world would be a much nicer place.
Let's start focusing on Jesus Christ and His love for us.

Ephesians 4: does say we have one God and one Faith along with other unities.
I am one person, a mother, a daughter and a wife. Same with God. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

The point is there is ONLY ONE GOD. The one that created us. For all the people that believe in something else, its because of the way they were brought up. But sooner or later everyone is going to die, and they will have to answer to God. Sad to say, it's there problem then.
First Commandment: Thou shall have no other Gods before me.
think about it.

I believe your analysis is spot on.
One item that you left out is that even with one God we still have a lot of people with their own personal interests and agendas that are willing to use God to manipulate their fellow man and woman for their own personal benefit. Thus, a multitude of religions, denominations, interpretations and idiosyncratic interpretations of tests written by folks with their own place in history and their own agendas.
It's not God with the problem, it's the religious that have the problems.
