You could check the owners manual. An autoparts store should know by looking at the vin and running a check.
If you want, you can post the VIN number I can run a carfax and tell you.

The only way is the original window sticker or call the parts department of your local Nissan Dealer and ask. The higher the trim level the more options. GXE and GLE were the range toppers. SE and XE one had crank up windows cloth interior.

I'll give you the low down on each trim level:
XE- Roll up windows, manual locks, wheel covers, aM-FM cassette
GXE- power windows, locks, cruise control, wheel covers, A/C(option on XE). Power sunroof is optional but very few GXEs have it
GLE- ABS, alloy wheels (option on GXE), automatic temperature control, AM-FM cassette CD (option on GXE),alarm system, and leather interior. Power sunroof is an option but most GLEs have it.
SE- GXE with rear spoiler, alloy wheels, power sunroof, AM-FM cassette CD, foglights and optional leather.
A Limited Edition model was also available in 1997 if I'm not mistaken. It was a GXE with AM-FM cassette CD, alloy wheels, automatic transmission, and alarm system. All except the GLE,and Limited Edition came with a 5 speed manual standard fare with automatic optional though most Altimas sold are automatics. The GLE and Limited only came with the automatic tranny. Well that's all that I know about it. I hope it helps

you should be able to call your local nissan dealer parts department give the parts counter employee the vehicle identification number (vin #) which is located on the driver side through the front glass lower corner, or on your vehicle registration, when the employee types in the vin # in their computer it will tell them the type of nissan you have
