The Chinese government has an official site for learning Mandarin Chinese, www.linese.com. Best thing is that it's free!

It depends a lot on if you're looking for just the character (writing) language or if you're trying to speak it. I'm assuming that you were born and raised in the USA, and if I'm right, it'll take a long time for you to learn the proper tonal forms of words. No site is going to be able to compile 3000+ characters and their different shades of meaning.
It would be best to find a person to teach you, or take a class - preferably with someone who has either grown up with the language or has studied it intensively. Both my parents are from China, and even they're confused about the differences between certain words.

I assurance you have heard of it. It's particularly well for talking and writing in chinese language. it is kinda for small youngsters to past due young adults, however I've noticeable older ppl pass there to be trained too, so i suppose that suggests how well it's.

Well, Chinese is a tonal language, so you aren't going to be able to learn it on the internet, I should think. Probably need to take a class from someone who actually speaks it, OR go to Barnes & Noble and get a language program on audio.
