Make sure you're using your hips into your punches. Your jab will mostly come off your back foot, but your right cross and hooks will use your hips for their main source of power. To set up your right, make sure you snap your jab and immediately follow with your right. As soon as the jab hits, your right should be coming through.

A jab comes off of proper footwork and when done correctly snaps out with all the power, speed, and snap at the end of it much like when you snap a towel at someone. Without the proper footwork it will never have the power and speed that it should. Take a step lightly towards the bag on your toes with your lead foot and as your back foot moves up to catch up with it you send the jab out so that it hits as your back foot stops moving up. This way you have the power of your upper body momentum behind it as it lands. Distance is very important here; too close to the bag and you will tend to push it with your jab and waste power and energy; to far away you will only graze the bag and not get maximum impact. At just the right distance your hand will snap out, aided by your momentum and make contact with the bag at the last few inches of the bag and it is then much like the towel being snapped.

You can move straight towards the bag and have more momentum doing a power jab or you can move at a slight angle towards the corner of your lead foot, and have slightly less power but be harder to hit since you are not stepping straight ahead. As you get better with this you can also add some bobbing to change the level of your face and head making you harder to hit as well.

A jab is primarily used to close the distance, keep your opponent off balance and occupied so he can not freely punch at you as you move in and to set up other techniques. A person with a good fast, hard jab can usually do a lot of damage with it and even sometimes knock a person out if he catches them moving forward.

To make your jab faster you need to develop your fast twitch muscles and keep your shoulders and slow twitch, power type muscles relaxed. Practice doing double and triple jabs on the bag when you move like I explained above and you should see some results in a few weeks.

Setup the right hand by jabbing you boob. Put in simple terms: you circle to the outside of the opponents lead , jab, wait for him/her to react then you come with a single right hand- like Mayweather Jr. does. You need quickness for that however.
You say your right hand is your best weapon; by that do you mean your most powerful/speedy/overall effective punch, or do you mean its just powerful. In that case id hope its not your best weapon. IF you cant land it,its not a good weapon.

Try jabbing to the body, then come up top with the right. Like I said about circling; Jab in front of him/her then swivle to your right and catch the right hand on the corner of his/her head.
You need to improve your physical prowess from what I'm getting here. You say your job is not only slow but lacks power too?? Damn there's only so much coaching can do for you. Learn strategy-- improve physically-- implement strategy. You bastard

If you want to increase your speed and power you might want to borrow some training methods used by boxers. They use the speed bag to increase speed and accuracy, and a headache bag to work speed combinations. Plus with a headache bag you will need to learn to move and get out of the way of the returning bag. Just like an opponent counter attacking.
Train with a boxing coach and you will find that your speed, power and defensive technique will improve.- My suggestion.

I read some of the other answers. If you don't have money for a speed bag, grab a quarter. Hold quarter slightly higher than shoulder height, and drop. Bring hand back in the guard position and shoot hand back out and snatch the quarter. You won't get it at first, but when you do, this will increase your speed. Repeat for reps.

About taking hits. Realize that if you are going to fight, get used to getting hit. It will always happen. Just make sure that your chin is tucked and your guard is up. If you get hit, just keep hitting them more than they hit you.

Jab is not meant to move your opponent back!!!! The jab is used to keep your opponent at distance ( while he is blocking or taking your jab, he is not setting his own attack) and set-up your own combination.
For your jab to be fast your hand should be relaxed during the throw (hip and shoulder movement are important) and your fist should be tight shortly before impact.
Throwing a couple of fast jab on target should help set-up your next move.

The trick is to constantly work on your speed with a heavy bag and a speed bag. you have to get your hand /eye coordination to match your power. That will give you the best results. Practice with the speed bag, then the heavy bag, then back to the speed bag. It'll train your eyes to move quickly and your hands will follow suit.

Practice....learn to get power from your legs
Olympic Weight Lifting has been shown to build power and not put on alot of size(if you're worried about getting too big)....I would suggest getting an actual power lifter to show how its done as its easy to hurt yourself as opposed to traditional weight lifting
