Lots of different companies will let you see your credit report and credit scores and will give you a 30 day free trial. True Credit, freecreditreport.com, and myfico.com are just a few of the many companies that offer this service. Just make sure you call and cancel before the 30 days are up, otherwise you will be charged.

I don't know of any way to get your credit score without paying for it. Only your credit report.

You can't and those websites aren't always accurate. You can either write to the credit bureaus and ask for your annual free copy or if you've been declined for something recently you can mail that letter to the credit bureaus and they will send it to you. If you decide to pay for the information make sure you are at the website of a legitimate credit bureau such as:
www.equifax.com or www.transunion.com or www.experian.com

I have a credit card through WAMU (Washington Mutual) that gives me free access to my FICO score via my account log in.
I hardly ever use that card anyone (pretty high interest) but I keep it for the credit score info.

From the government FTC site:
"The three nationwide consumer reporting companies have set up a central website, a toll-free telephone number, and a mailing address through which you can order your free annual report.
To order, visit annualcreditreport.com, call 1-877-322-8228, "
