I had mine removed when I was 25 - yes, it is totally possible. I will be completely honest with you here...the recovery is extremely difficult when you have a tonsillectomy as an adult. You'll see lots of posts on here from people saying it's not so bad, but that is because time has passed and they don't remember all the details.

Is it worth it? Absolutely, 100%, I'd do it again if I had the choice to make over again. I had chronic tonsillitis for 2 years, and haven't had as much as a minor sore throat ever since.

The first part of my recovery took 2 weeks. I stayed in bed most of that time, and tried to sleep as much as possible. #1 advice to you is to stay on top of your pain medication. Take it exactly as prescribed. If you let it wear off, you won't be a happy camper. I ate Jell-o, popsicles and crushed ice (lost about 15 pounds - bonus!) for those first 2 weeks. My grandmother came in town to be with me during that time and make sure I took my meds & stayed hydrated. Once I felt good enough to get out of bed, I started eating soft foods (very small portions) and kept eating the crushed ice. I rested at home for the final 2 weeks of my recovery, and then was back to normal.

There is one gross thing you need to know about...you will have scabs in the back of your throat. Your mouth will taste pretty bad until the scabs come off. Do not try to make them come off - they will fall off on their own. I actually gagged and coughed mine up, but a friend of mine said they just fell off in her sleep one night & she assumes she swallowed them (YUCK-O!).

Be prepared to learn how to swallow and talk again. You have a brand new throat back there - you have to learn how to use it. Be patient and don't get frustrated; it just takes time. And you'll be so glad you did it!!!

Yes, I got my tonsils removed about 10 years ago. Simple anesthetic procedure, but the hardest part is recovery! Your throat will be very sore, and you will not be talking very well for the next week or so depending on how well you recover. You may feel somewhat sick from the surgery, mainly because a lot of blood is accidentally swallowed during the extraction (which may cause vomitting later).

I apologize if I have frightened you! That was not my intention! Truly, I think you will be satisfied when it is over! For you, it should help very much with your sinus infections! For me, it made my voice much clearer. Good luck, and try not to worry!

Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

My sister-in-law just had them removed last year, she was 30. It was an out-patient procedure, done in about an hour. Her recovery sucked, she was in bed for about 5-7 days, and she could only eat liquid meals. It helped her out though, she hasn't had a sinus infection since.

tonsil is only a lymph tissue which are the part of immune system..you have some other lymph tissue in the body like spleen, lymphnodes..so if you remove the tonsil then other will work .it wont cause any harm to your immune system.

It is possible to remove at your age and is also done in a day surgery setting. It is a fairly common procedure done by a ENT surgeon.

Its not a big operation, It is done through your mouth wide open and you are under general anesthesia and there is very little blood loss(perhaps15-20 ml, rough guess).
