I like to read and scrapbook but I am not sure how to make the most of the area?

make it a reading nook with a comfy chair and good light and small bookcase, sound system and some green plants

sounds like a good hobby room, ive seen them as sewing rooms, and play rooms for children. a couple of small tables and a shelf for supplys and a chair is probably all you need to make an outstanding scrapbooking/hobby room

Put in there a couple of comfy, plush chairs a coffee table, some pillows and turn that into a retreat for you and your family. So that whenever you or anyone else needs to retreat they have somewhere to go.

1] desk or work table - cover with plexiglass or plastic to protect finish
2] wooden chest of drawers with dividers/rubbermaid chest/file cabinet to store all sheets and supplies for scrapbook
3] good overhead light
4] if you can fit desk and chest on one wall, make a reading/relaxing corner opposite, with armchair and ottoman, and reading lamp
