1] clean it up- donate, give away, or throw out stuff that is too small, too big, too ugly, or too boring.
2] store everything in a specific spot - drawers for underwear, socks/tights/hose, exercise wear, pajamas; drawers or closet shelves for tops, sweaters, sweatshirts and hoodies, jeans.
3] Any dress pants, jackets, coats, skirts, dresses should be hung up.
4] shoe racks for: [ left to right ] winter shoes/boots, school/work shoes, athletic shoes, summer shoes. Put dressiest in back, and more casual in front.
5] closet shelf dividers: [ left to right ] winter hats, scarves, gloves; Tees and sweaters; handbags shelved like books;
and summer hats, baseball caps, and beach stuff.
OK< now re-assess. What color[s] are in your room?
The colors of the bedding/curtains should be same, or at least some of same colors. The wall color should be from the fabric print,as well.
1] Pick a shade that is at the other end of intensity of the same color - light to dark [ if walls are pink, add burgundy; if walls are teal, add aqua ]. You can do this through throw pillows, rug, lamps or shades, or candles and ornaments.
2] Add some metallic accents = brass, chrome, or copper lamps, picture frames, candle holders.
3] Make an accent wall, at head of bed, for instance. If you have a yellow room, with lime, yellow, and orange geo or flower print for bedding and drapes; make an accent wall of
lime, yellow, and orange stripes. This immediately draws the eye to that area [ make sure bed is made! ]
4] then put all similar [ family, friends, or activities ] photos in groups or collages on one wall, like a mini gallery.
5] try a large mirror across from window wall.
6] Collect pretty or interesting containers for desk accessories [ like flowerpots, or wooden boxes, or tin boxes ]
for pens/pencils/markers, tacks, paper clips
7] collect porcelin, stone, or metal hinged boxes for dresser accessories.
8] if there is a blank spot on walls, add a floral swag or wreath made from eucalyptus and flowers in your room colors.

depends on your carpet color, walls, etc.

It also depends a LOT on your personality and your likes and disklikes. I, for example, Love cultural stuff, so I would go with an Asian or Moraccan theme, look at this link:

Ceiling fan, soft pastel paint, colored vertical blinds, one big oversized teddy bear, colored posters but don't overdo, change the bedspread/sheets, add lighting to strategic spots, have plants but not too much. Keep things tidy. Hope that helps.
