Liuetenant George W. Bush, as a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard, volunteered for the Palace Alert program. That was the one which involved Guard personnel in the Indochina Theater of Operations. Unfortunately he had been trained on the wrong type of aircraft. The air frame he trained and qualified on was superseded by a later type of aircraft.
For the record, over 50,000 members of the National Guard and Air Guard served in that theater of operations during the Vietnam War. One of the most highly decorated units was an artillery outfit from the West Virginia National Guard.
But, don't let facts stand in the way of your little partisan political train.
