Domenico Scarlatti (with this spelling, you should find more information...) was a composer from the Baroque Era. He lived from 1685 to 1757 and was a contemporary of J.S. Bach. He was famous as a music teacher (he worked much of his life in Spain - though he was Italian born). He wrote many many "sonatas" for the keyboard. These were primarily for the harpsichord (the forerunner of the piano), but it is believed by some that he may have experimented with some of the first pianofortes ever built. The sonatas that he wrote do not follow the form of sonatas from the classical era, but many of his musical ideas are ahead of his time.

Also, it is interesting to note that Domenico was the son of Alessandro Scarlatti who was a famous composer himself. Alessandro was most famous for his operas and cantatas.

Just hint...if you are writing this for a choir assignment, watch your spelling. It matters a lot to those of us in the music teaching profession. :)
