I see screws under the counter and I am planning on replacing with granite. Is it a fairly easy job? Does anyone know a website that would tell me a step by step instructions....for novices? Thanks in advance.

Removing Formica countertops is very easy. First, disconnect and remove the sink, then take out the screws you saw (and a few more you'll have to hunt for) and lift it off.

While this is pretty easy to do, if you are having a pro install the new granite countertop, I would expect them to remove the old one as part of the job. He may be pleasantly surprised to have the work already done for him, but I doubt he'll take much off the bill for it.

Good Luck!

I hear that you want to do this yourself and if you can fine, but I would let a pro handle this. Maybe you could figure out how to tear out your present counter but if you have no experience in stone, I wouldn't do it. The end result should be flawless for the money you are spending. Don't take side steps to save a buck or two.

take out the screws and lift up
if it does not come off then get it off with a crow-bar
