Dont listen to the people who write that people food shouldn't be allowed and is not healthy. Your dog should have meat such as beef and chicken and along with other things such as baloney and fish. You should feed this along with different varieties of can food and dry food. A safe age for puppies to begin eating people food is around 7 weeks. Thats when my puppies starting eating people food. Don't just give your dog dry and can food because that wouldnt make your dog very happy. It would be like putting you on only eating fruit with no meat or bread. I hope this helps. =)

Some breeders wean puppies at 4 weeks. The reason for the pups drinking the mother's milk is because the puppy is developing their intestinal walls among everything else. When a puppy is fed food of any kind other than it's mother's milk before this time, and in my opinion before 8 weeks of age. It can sometimes cause leaky guy syndrome. Food and particles leak in through the intestinal walls and can cause food allergies or harm the animal at a later stage in life.
Human food is not recommended for dogs. Stick with a quality dog food. Look for one without corn, preservatives and chemicals. Good Luck.

Even though it might not hurt all dogs, it is never good for them to eat human food. It can upset their ph balance, encourage ear infections and the growth of yeast, etc.

P.S.
Some posters seem to be under the impression that chicken and beef are defined as human food. How do these silly notions get into people's heads?

Most dogs who are larger than french poodles, when left in a fenced yard with live chickens, will attempt to catch and eat them.

No one said that dogs shouldn't eat chicken. We said that they shouldn't eat human food. Therefore, the batter on chicken would be bad for a dog. The bread from a beef burger would be bad for the dog. Etc. I hope that clears this up for some people...

Dogs should not be fed human food at all. Too many preservatives and things a dog doesn't digest well. Chocolate can actually be fatal to some small breeds if they eat enough. Do your dog a favor and keep it on dog food. It will live longer and healthier.

dogs shouldnt be eating a lot of human food anyway. Its not good for them at any age, every once in a while to give them the leftover bacon, or chicken, or icec ream is okay.. but foods like chocolate, cheese curls, popcorn, and pretzels arent good for them.. but getting back to the question i would say age 2 is pretty safe..

I don't think it is every right to feed dogs human food. It teaches them bad habits and sometimes the food isn't good for them. For instince: Did you know that raisons and grapes can kill dogs, along with chocolate?

You should try keeping them on dog food, and if you happen to drop a small piece of cooked meat or a piece of lettuce while making dinner, fine.

There are a lot of good answers already. Dogs should not eat human food at all. If you want to give your dog a treat, it should be a dog treat.
