4 months is a good age to do obedience training.
As a breeder, I would enrol him into puppy pre-school as soon as possible, as the best time to start any training is while they are still developing. Just like children a puppy's brain is like a sponge, & they pick up what they can & cannot do. If you let the puppy get away with different things like jumping, pulling on the lead, biting, & eliminating in the house, they pill think this is aceptable behaviour as an adult & the bad behaviour will be reinforced & harder to get rid of. Remember his mother would of also been teaching him good behaviour from bad before he was 8 weeks of age.
When training be consistent, only reward the good behaviour, not the bad as the training provided will shape your puppy as an adult. Give him plenty of praise & gentle but firm commands. This will let him know that you are in charge, not him, & you will both be alot happier

Start now! The sooner the better! They learn quicker and will retain the information longer when you start training at a younger age. You also develop a stronger bond between your puppy when you engage in obedience training from an early start. I started training my dog at 3months and 4 months he went to his first show by 6 months he had over 5 first place wins. You need to start the training now if you dont want the behavior to get worse. I would have had him enrolled in puppy kindergarten first then moved him up to basic obedience, there is no reason he wont be able to perform at the same level if not better than older dogs. How well he is trained and how reliable he becomes is all based on how much you train and practice with him and how consistent you are with it. Age has nothing to do with it.

Puppies should be enrolled in a "puppy kindergarten" class as soon as they've had their vaccinations. Proper socialization is extremely important for puppies.
No puppy is too young to learn basic obedience, although many traditional methods (like those using force and choke chains) do not produce good results when used with puppies. Positive reinforcement, however, is appropriate for any dog of any age.
Call around to the places that offer obedience classes and ask what classes they offer and what ages they recommend for each class.

Puppy Kindergarten is for developing brains. It helps the puppy learn as he grows, and will make a big difference in the long run.
Enroll him now, and go consistantly and do the homework. It is worth it.

I feel it quite is dependent upon your canine, nevertheless, after I took a Petsmart training category, it did not work for me. I did attempt to stick to the lessens they taught, nonetheless I feel which you could get the equal, if not better outcome through books or online. If you happen to do come to a decision to take the category, take the crew type. It's excellent to get your canine used to other dogs being around, considering that now my three yr historic lab is aggressive with different dogs. Oh! And watch the dog whisperer, some is a bunch of bs, but i did be taught some invaluable pointers.

If his behavior is getting to be intolerable make an appointment for training now. Even young dogs know when they don't have a leader and will behave badly.

I would think your pup is ready now to enroll. I train my pups myself at home but I will start slowly some things as soon as I get acquainted with them. About 7-8 weeks I start with small things, leash familiarity, come, etc.
