i wondered what christians and non-christians thought of it?

"you really cannot be a true american unless you are a chritian. america was founded on christian blood, sweat and tears. people call themselves american and no nothing about the glorious history of this nation. they are not an american. maybe legally, but not in spirit and certainly not in my eyes."

Bloodthirsty? Really? I think that it was silly, but the guy didn't make any kind of threatening statement that I can see.

Are you overreacting a little?

Well, I note that this person cannot consistently spell the word "Christian" properly. While I'm a follower of Jesus and a member of the United Methodist Church, I'm not sure that this fellow would consider me a "chritian".

I hope that the person that wrote you that e-mail actually is a Christian, and that he/she prays about what was written.

As to the "glorious history of this nation", I would have to suppose that this person really hasn't done much study of actual American history. Too bad, as it's pretty interesting, warts and all.

Hmm. I'm wiccan. Sounds like this person needs to brush up on their history. Not all of the people that came here were christians. I know for a fact that my ancestors who were the first to come here on the Mayflower were not at least. This country was basically a penal colony when it started out.

This is a quote from wikipedia' "A penal colony is a colony used to detain prisoners and generally use them for penal labor in an economically underdeveloped part of the state's (usually colonial) territories, and on a far larger scale than a prison farm. The most well known was Devil's Island in French Guiana. The British Empire used its colonies in North America for almost 150 years and then parts of Australia for a further 75 years."

The indians (native americans, as my friends lovingly call themselves) were not christians, african-americans were decendents from the slaves, who were not christian to start out with.

Well, I really don't give a rat's butt whether or not I'm an American in HIS eyes. Who the heck is HE?

I was born here, raised here, I pay taxes, my husband served in our military and fought in a war, I've had ancestors who have fought and died for this country.

There is nowhere in the American constitution that says you have to be Christian to be an American, and that does not change no matter how much bigots like him want it to. He can wish it all he wants, but he'll still have to deal with it. No true American says that someone HAS to follow a particular religious belief. That is completely against everything this country stands for. So in TRUTH, I'm far more American than he is. And as much as he turns my stomach, unlike him I'd fight today for his rights to be here and for his rights to speech and freedom of religion.

Well, I do not see anything blood thirsty about that part of it, but he or she is dead wrong. This country is not a Christian nation. It was not founded on Christian principles either. It was founded on the freedom of religion and that includes all religion and the freedom from religion.

But as far as them saying I or anyone else is not an American in their eyes, Who died and made them king? that means absolutely nothing they are just one sick individual.

The United States of America is only a Small part of the Americas and we have many non Christians including atheists, pagans and other non christian beliefs. Our constitution gives us the right to believe as we feel is right and that includes not believing.

wow...this guy knows nothing of the history of his country OR his religion. Not only was America founded as a secular country to prevent the religious persecution that the founding fathers were fleeing from, it was also a country founded on the blood and tears of the indigenous peoples.

America is a country founded on the principles of religious freedom and part of 'religious freedom' is the freedom not to believe in any religion. What a total jackass.

That is disturbing, but unfortunately, that person is not alone. Former President George Bush Sr. once said that atheists should not be considered American citizens. Apparently, Christians are unaware of the bloodbath they have brought upon this continent in the form of European conquerors who slaughtered native Americans by the thousands in the name of Jesus, or took Indian children away from their parents to force them to learn white men's ways. Everywhere Christianity goes, violence follows. You should e-mail this person back and point out that the majority of people in American prisons are Christians.

There is little value in the writings of anyone who writes to upset or unsettle others. That has been tried throughout history and it accomplishes very little other than perhaps a couple of antacid tablets and a call me in the morning. What we always must do is think for a moment about the credibility of the author before we bend our psyches out of shape in tension, anxiety, worry, stress and general uneasiness after reading the pronouncements and monographs of turmoil.

I think it is not bloodthirsty as I understand the word, but perhaps distrubingly so. It certainly looks authentic to me. Perhaps the Pope wrote it, or Billy Graham. No, it looks like Sister Nirmala might have wrote it. Thank God it was not the Dalai Lama or Gaddafi!

I am a Christian and I absolutely do not agree with that. Please excuse this person's point of view, it is not what we all think. Your belief in God, or lack thereof, is completely up to you. Yes, I would like for everyone to believe like I do, but I realize that not everyone will. America is a place that is open to everyone, even those who can harm us. We are a place of choice and freedom, not a place that will destroy your life based on what you believe or don't believe. I hope that you have a good night!

I think the person who wrote the e-mail doesn't understand American history. America was founded on the genocide of Native American tribes by Christians. The blood, sweat, and tears belonged to the indigenous peoples.

Some people need to learn to deal with their anger in healthy ways.
