If you are really serious about developing American English accent, OF COURSE it is possible to do it, no matter your current level of proficiency or your age.

If you want to see which options to accomplish that are out there, simply Google search phrases like the following:

"American English pronunciation"
"pronunciation of American English"
"proninciation in American English"

Nevertheless, you need to learn from a reliable source, because not everything you find out there is a good one. ETS for example, are the makers of the most recognized ESL tests (TOEFL, TOEIC, TSE, TAST, etc). They published a CD aimed solely at improving the AMERICAN ENGLISH pronunciation skills on anyone, regardless of your present level.

A friend of mine who is a non-native English speaker and got a very high score on the TOEFL test, but was not happy with his spoken English, he got it and he has improved a lot, he even sounds almost like an American or Canadian; it is very difficult to tell he has an accent.

You will definitely improve your American accent if you use it.

Also, here's a link where you can readily enter and listen to how lots of confusing words and sounds are pronounced in American English. This site's lessons are for free. My friend used them as well and it also helped improve his American English pronunciation a lot. Even many native speakers have trouble with those word combinations, it's really interesting and fun to practice and learn listening to it!

Bottom line, OF COURSE IT IS POSSIBLE TO ACQUIRE AN AMERICAN ENGLISH ACCENT, through hard work, studying crucial things like stress, intonation and rhythm, and the most important three ingredients: PRACTICE, PRACTICE AND PRACTICE!!

Good luck!

Why do you need the american accent?

You could download some american podcasts and put them on an mp3 player, or listen to the radio, or phone an american person a lot.

Also, listening to a lot of american music will help..

Good luck!
