I'm having a fall themed cake, and I don't really like the idea of a wedding cake topper. Is it absolutely necessary to have one? Would it look stupid if I didn't? Thanks.

NO, you DO NOT have to have one! lot's of people just have monograms now, or leave them bare - Crystal's are popular now too - talk to your baker & look at caks in the bridal mags & on-line & get some ideas as to what you'd like

No, it's not necessary. No, it won't look stupid if you don't have one. After all, you eat many cakes in life and very few of them have toppers. At least half the weddings I've been to, there was no topper on the cake.

Just make sure the cake is pretty in its own right and don't worry about a topper. If you dislike them, then it's a silly thing to spend your money on.

If you don't like them, you really don't need to have one on your wedding cake. You could have the cake decorator put some fall leaves or fall colored icing flowers decorating the top tier and cascading down the sides of the cakes. Or you could use real flowers or silk flowers. Fall colors are so beautiful, you'll have a lovely cake without the topper. My daughter had one on her cake and paid $75.00 for it. It's now sitting on a shelf. She had roses in her wedding colors between the 4 tiers and I think it would have looked just as nice with some of the flowers on top of the cake. Don't worry about it looking stupid. Whatever choice you make, it will be unique. Best wishes!!

Of course you don't have to have a topper. My daughter had a fall themed wedding and her cake was a very simple three tiered cake with almond icing and each tier had a garland of fall leaves and red berries around it. It was simply lovely. You don't even have to do a traditional cake. How about cupcakes with fall leaves on top? They can be arranged in tiers like a cake. Look in Martha Stewart's wedding magazines or online for ideas. You might also look on the Wilton website. There are so many different ways to go! Good luck and have a wonderful wedding.

No, you don't need a cake topper. And it would not look stupid.

If you feel like your cake may be missing something, you could always use flowers. I am having a fall wedding and I am using gerbera daisies in deep red, orange, and gold yellow to top the cake. I am also putting some sporadically around the cake and on the cake table. Here is a site with a picture of a gerbera daisy, for your reference.

No it wouldn't look stupid. As a part time banquet waitress I've worked dozens of weddings. Some have elaborate cake tops (that have nearly collapsed the whole cake) & some have simple ones. If you are sure you don't want one but are uncomfortable about it, you might think about having a satin ribbon around the bottom of each layer of your cake. Or maybe get a couple of extra flowers & give them to the cake lady to put on the top?

No, you don't have to have a topper, it is totally up to your tastes. It is very common for cakes not to have the traditional "bride and groom topper," some choose other types of toppers, some top the cake with flowers or jewels, some have nothing on top. Check with your baker for options. Best wishes!

I personally think most cake toppers are tacky. I am having just some scroll work on the top done so it is not completely blank. Even if it is blank, I do not think it will look bad. I think you should only have a cake topper if it is very minimalist.

I don't know anyone who had a wedding cake topper, at least not in the last 10 years.

It's not necessary at all. It's your wedding; you should do whatever you want to do. A cake topper is a little too old-fashioned (in my opinion).
Plus, in this day and age, there is no norm. Do what you want. I know it will look beautiful!
