UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD A DOG BE GIVEN CHOCOLATE!!!!

That being said, a small bit of chocolate will have little (if any)noticeable effect.

But beware!!! Four ounces of pure unsweetened chcolate can kill a medium sized dog!!!

There is a chemical in chocolate called bromine which dogs cannot metabolize and can have serious effects on a dogs health.

An accidental ingestion of a small amount of milk chocolate may not pose any serious threat to a dog but as the old saying goes: "A word to the wise...."

Hi!! Actually chocolate in a very small amount shouldn't cause a problem. But try to be careful not to let your dog get anymore because large amounts of chocolate can cause death in a dog. Keep an eye on your dog and if he starts acting funny (like laying around, not eating or drinking) take him to a vet right away. Good Luck

Most dog owners are now aware that chocolate has the capacity to seriously harm or even kill our greedy, canine pals. Many vets experience calls from dog owners who are panic sticken because their pet has eaten a bar of chocolate by mistake or somebody has given their dog some chocolate without realsiing the potential harm it can do.

So, let's get straight to the point. Can chocolate kill dogs?

The short answer is yes. Chocolate can indeed cause a dog to die if ingested in enough quantitiy.

A single, shop purchased bar of chocolate is not going to kill your dog. It's unlikely it would even harm the dog in any great deal so let's not get too anxious.

Your dog has to ingest quite a bit of chocolate to feel any negative effects. It is the caffeine and bromethalin in chocolate that is poisonous to your dog. Dark baker's chocolate is most toxic to your dog since it contains a high amount of caffeine and bromethalin. Milk chocolate and white chocolate have lower amounts of caffeine.

Whilst chocolate has its fatally poisonous qualities when eaten by dogs, it's by no means one of the biggest toxic dangers in your home.

Your shih tzu should be all right. Undiluted chocolate, as found in chocolate bars, is the worst culprit. Be aware that chocolate is toxic to dogs. Keep it out of reach.

A little bit of brownie is fine. No chocolate bars or caffeine of any kind. They can have a heart attack.
