tomorrow, i will be at a church sponsored soccer camp, its a day camp, and im helping out with the preschoolers with my neighbor Jodie and her kids, i was there today, and i had a blast, but tomorrow, shes bringing her friends daughter Ava who is a year old. i have a feeling that im going to watch her for a while, and im a bit worried about being at a public park,

she fusses alot, and i put her down, but im worried that shes going to pick something up off the ground and eat it, im very paranoied about sanitation and germs, especially when its children that im responsible for, we have a child leash for her, because she can walk, barely, and it makes her fall, thats the only way i can let her be on the ground, i dont want someone to walk away with her, or her to walk away,

we have rotations at church, so we cant bring a playpen, no one has one anyway, and a stroller would be very impractical,

Ever heard the saying, "Dirt don't hurt"! I'm not saying it's okay for her to eat dirt, but that's one way little one's explore and learn. No matter how hard you try, kids are going to put things in their mouth. Do your best to keep her upright. Snacks and sippy cups are good distractions. Also, little one's typically like songs (It doesn't matter how good or bad of a singer you are). Point things out to her, too. Like birds, and trees, etc. Like I said, distractions are good... Just remember to keep your eyes on her at all times. : ) Oh, and don't stress... If she senses that you're nervous or stressed, she may fuss more. Good luck, I'm sure you both will have fun!

A one year old is a huge responsibility and you should see if the mom has a play yard (it is a portable boundary that can be set up) a play pen would also be practical for such a tiny child. Talk to the camp director about your concerns and see what solutions they can help you with. The adult is ultimately responsible so you need to ask for their help. You may feel it is your "duty" but you are just a kid and lack the practical experience in this matter. Talk to a responsible adult ASAP and get some assistance in dealing with a toddler at the park. Good Luck!

the most you can do then is watch her CLOSELY!! And since you are at the park she should be fine since there is soo much to do there. Swing with her and just walk around with her. Most kids are fine at the park even with all the germs..Just bring some wet wipes
