I was just curious......why do some shows show the labels on food such as Barefoot Contessa and other shows have to make phony labels to hide the brand names such as 30 Minute Meals?

Not sure but off the bat I would suspect when the label is clearly visable the company has paid money for that product placement.

Because they do not want to advertise brand name products unless they (the network) is getting something in return ($$$). In some cases brand name items are shown, in this case the items are usually donated, and the manufacturer pays for what is called product placement, in that case they would generally be a sponsor of the show as well.

Rachel Ray has her own line of foods coming out so she won't show other brands. Same holds true to Emeril and others. Those that show the labels - the star has no endorsement contracts which would cause a conflict of interest.

Shows that have sponsorship by those products are allowed to show the label. Those that do not have sponsorship cannot as they would be advertising the products for free!

It has to do with advertising & sponsorship.
They don't want to promote any brand,
unless that brand has paid for it.
