Canal Street.
Also At night if you go near the Rockefeller center there are alot of people just selling them on the street.
And at Pier 17 in the day they do it also. They will just open up there jacket or bag and show you.
they are good, as i got one! And it looks exactly like the genuine one!

Canal Street used to be the knock off capital until they started cracking down. It's much harder to get knock offs and it will take some asking, because they'll have to trust you aren't the cops before you'll even be allowed to look at the stuff.
Otherwise for the real thing really cheap try Century 21 on Courtlandt St. in the financial district.

I don't know about NYC but f you have a Name Brand Clothing (NBC) store, get on their mailing list. They actually have the real thing (Coach and Dooney) with the paperwork, tags, dust bags... for 1/2 the price or more. These sales are exclusive and the only way to know when they are is to get on the mailing list of the store. Then look on their flyer and it will have a date for the sale. Then you show up at the store at 1000 am usually. You are given a ticket stub. Then at about 1030 they draw tickets and let those people go back behind a curtain (one at a time) and pick the bag of their choice. I have 2 coach bags. One I got for 69 and retails for 289. The other i got for 39 and retails for 218. They are authentic. I checked them out. Hope that helps some.

Go to Chinatown. Not only are there street displays of purses, you will have people asking you if you'd like to buy designer knock-offs on the street. Some of them look pretty good!

Just take the yellow line to Prince St, then walk down Broadway through SoHo and into Chinatown. The yellow line (N,R,W) also will take you directly to Canal St.
