The MOST important safety device in your car is;
THE DRIVER!!!
So the crappy driving instructors that don't know how to teach driver training properly (which includes most of them) are the biggest waste of money.
Bad drivers get into a lot of accidents so the safety devices are often used and they are very valuable to these people.
Really good drivers stay out of accidents so the safety devices aren't needed as much.
Many safety devices are offered for the drivers who are too lazy to learn to be really good drivers.
Spend your money on advanced driver training and you won't need the ABS or Traction Control upgrades.

Anti-Lock brakes. I grew up with standard brakes, and this one kills me. It takes longer to stop with ABS than regular brakes on snow since when you even tap the brakes with ABS, the system kicks in. I hate them
Traction Control. Learn to drive your vehicle. That simple.
And this is to the nimrod who thinks airbags are a bad idea. I used to have a 1999 Ford F150 which had an advanced seat belt system. I was hit head on with my friend by a driver. She was doing 55 and we were doing 25. My airbag went off and I walked away with scratches. My friends airbag didn't go off (Noone knows why). His head hit the dashboard, he broke his neck and died. I know that if the airbag had deployed, he'd still be alive today. Just be thankful when you're hit head on, and don't smash out your mouth on the steering wheel because of the airbag.

Bicycle Helmets. Just my opinion.
There were those Deer Whistles back in the 80's that didn't really keep the deer away, just attracted owls.
Left turn red arrow. I don't need a stop light to tell me when its safe to turn. Turn when no cars are coming.
Metal detecters at parties, sure it's safe inside but what about all those people outside with guns?

My vote for most worthless safety device are airbags. they are very complex, extremely EXPENSIVE, heavy and dangerous. We all had airbags shoved up our *** in the eighties because the do gooders and whiners in our country demanded the government 'do' something to protect us from ourselves. So, instead of going to the engineers that actually build and race cars for a logical solution, like a superior seatbelt system, congress made a knee-jerk decision to force airbags on the public. I hate them and would yank them out of every car I owned if it were practical.

Most safety devices have a purpose, whether some people realize it or not. One 25 year old single person might think the child seat restraint points in the back seat of his mustang are pointless and not worth money, but the parents will definitely use them and think they are worth it. Just an example.

Anti lock brakes.
Traction control.
Rear view cameras.
And let us not forget my newest peeve:
Collision avoidance system!
If people would just pay attention along with realizing and accepting their responsibilities, none of this would have even been thought of.

stability control, traction control. people should learn how to control their vehicle not rely on it soley to keep them out of trouble. they already think they can go 100 in the rain because they have special tires. they have no feel for what they are operating.
