I show my dogs. I only regretted one neuter because he grew to be a really nice dog and because he is neutered, he can't be shown. He is not fat and lazy.
Who ever told you that a spayed dog will become overweight is wrong! Spayed and neutered dogs only become fat if they are over fed. If you know anybody that has a fat fixed dog, let them know that their dog would probably be just as fat even if they left their dog intact.

i'm sure some animals have died considering how many get spayed. i would say that the biggest problem is infection afterwards and waking up from the anesthesia. i don't think you have anything to worry about though, as it is a very common and safe procedure. your dog should be moving around and making attempts to eat and play the day after the surgery and be fine within a week to 10 days. i'm sorry to hear about your other dog. why did you have a 6 week old puppy? that is far too young to have a dog away from it's mother.

You are over reacting!

A dog that takes 3 good walks a day will not become overweight. Being spayed does NOT increase the chance of weight gain.

Female dogs unexpectedly get pregnant all the time. You did the right thing. There are thousands of dogs in shelters right now. You prevented more unwanted pets. You did the right thing. Besides, spayed pets have fewer health problems. You did the right thing. Why are you so upset about your dog being fat? Is it your own vanity?

You are over reacting!

No,I haven't regretted it,except to wonder, sometimes, what my dogs' puppies would have been like, you know,if they would have looked just like their mom or dad,or had the same temperament. But it's really for the best to have them spayed or neutered as it decreases their chance of getting certain cancers, completely cuts out the chances of a female getting pyometra or uterine cancer, and makes a male dog calmer. And,of course,it cuts down on the number of unwanted puppies. My dogs haven't gotten fat after being spayed. My German Shepherd is 6 years old and weighs about 75 lbs.;she is not fat at all.My two other females are a little chubby, but they had that type of build before they were spayed, and they are 11 and 14 years old,and my 15 year old dachshund mix weighs 27 lbs,he is not fat, either. All of mine were fixed at 5 -6 months of age. So,no ,I don't regret it at all. You just have to watch their diet and make sure they get enough exercise.

I don't regret it at all. This will also protect your female from reproductive cancers. Having a dog spayed will not make her overweight. All of my animals are spayed and neutered and never gained weight. If you're feeding your dog the proper amount and giving it plenty of exercise then she should stay a healthy weight. Spaying isn't some magic trigger for weightgain. There are other factors that contribute to it.

No, never. You are preventing your dog from accidental pregnancy, as well as mammary tumors and possible pyometra (look it up- bacteria can fill the uterus with pus and then you need to pay for an emergency surgery).

Dogs may gain weight after spaying and neutering, thats a fact, but it's because sex hormones play a part in metabolism, not because it "just happens". Talk to your vet about changing to a low calorie food if she is prone to weight gain, or just reduce the calories she eats and be careful with treats.

Your dog doesn't care about periods, reproduction, having babies, or anything. Those are emotions we are placing on them. Your dog has no idea what is going on. This is about how you feel, not how your dog feels.

Healthy dogs should not be overweight, spayed or unspayed. You say she's getting three walks a day but how long are those walks? How much food is she getting? What kind of food is she getting? How many treats/table scraps does she get (chews like pig ears and rawhide count, too)? Has she been tested for thyroid problems?

You say she could have handled a "period" (btw, dogs don't get periods). Could she have handled mammary cancer? Ovarian/uterine cancer? Pyometras?

I know what you mean I have a border collie and I wish I could let her have puppies so she could be a mom she would be so good at it and I would love to watch her be a mommy. Since the damage as already been done. when I grow up and move out I am going to give her a puppy just for her to take care of ( Of course I ll take care of all the things she cant do) I know I did not help much But I just wanted to let you know that you aren’t alone.

Don't be sad that you spayed her. As long as you are feeding her correctly and controlling her portions and exercising her she shouldn't gain too much weight.

You are much better off this way!

You don't have to worry about her getting pregnant when she goes into heat and her chances of getting cancer are much lower. Getting you dog spayed was the right decision for both of you and for the dog world because that is one less chance of unwanted puppies!

It is a big decision, but maybe the best. If you had no plans of safely breeding her, then it is the best choice. A good way to keep the weight of is to change her diet, regular walking, and have planned feedings.
Don't be so sad, it wont always be this way. You'll be glad, cause if you didnt, then maybe she would have mistakingly gotten pregnant. Thats a big thing to have to deal with if its not planned.
