I've always heard that Vitamin E capsules (the kind you poke and squeeze the oil out of) are the best. Does Mederma work? If I remember right it's around $40.00 plus it doesn't even contain Vit. E so I'm not sure which 1 to get. Please help! I have 10 stripes all the way down my toes!Is 1month into it pretty far along for good results? How long did it take?

I believe Mederma is traditionally used to "get rid" of existing scars. If you just recently had the stitches removed, vitamin E is okay. However, using topical bactrim, like polysporin, or Neosporin, will shorten healing time and reduce the likely-hood of infection and scarring. Unfortunately, it does take several weeks for your skin to completely renew itself. So use whatever product you choose consistantly.

I had my big toe severely cut by a treadmill gear (ouch!) about 6 years ago and had 17 stiches. Nothing really helped the scar, including Mederma. Still have the scar 6 years and multiple treatments later. Maybe it just depends on the severity or depth of the scar?

The doctor who does the stitches will usually tell you...and the stitches either need to be taken out or they will just disinegrate...and it takes about a month...or that's what my neighbor had...
