I pushed it hard yesterday on the treadmill, running for the first time. it felt good, but my legs were burning something awful, I could feel the burn! lol So of course today the legs are a little weak. I dont want to "overtrain" and fatigue is a symptom of that, but i don't want to not do anything if i don't have to. Im no fool though, i do not want to injure myself. Can I so any treadmill today, or should I skip a day?

It is a good thing to go every other day with cardio - especially starting out. Try mixing in some strength/weight training. Try something like this:

Mon: Strength training - upper body
Tues: Cardio
Wed: Strength training - lower body
Thurs: Cardio
Friday : Strength Trianing - upper body
Sat: Cardio
Sun: Rest

Then the week afterward, for your strength training days do two days of lower body and one day of upper body. Then , alternate each week. You will get more fit and better tone if you do strength training with your cardio. By building more lean muscle, you will burn more fat during your cardio workouts.

Good luck ,and keep it up!

You should alternate hard and easy days, never do two hard days in a row. If you are really sore then warm up easy and do some easy stretching, do not over stretch your muscles. If you are sore after warming up then take it easy or skip a day. You do not want to exercise 7 days a week. You need recovery days. If you over train you will be getting weaker not stronger. Sometimes you can do an easy day of biking where you do not put a load on your body but can still move your legs and get some cardiovascular exercise. If yesterday was the first time you ran you should expect to be sore today. That will happen until you are conditioned to running.

Compromise !!! Walk gingerly for a while to get your legs and body warmed up, then opt for swimming, light weights for upper body toning, rowing machine, a trip around the circuit training area, or whatever.

YES, you are extremely smart to avoid overuse injury which can be outright injury, illness, the flu, a cold, or any number of ailments.

My injuries and illnesses, almost 100%, can be traced to periods of continuous days of running. I suggest ALWAYS take 1 day a week for complete rest, (although VERY LIGHT and short activity is allowed to keep good circulation in the healing muscles).

Good Luck
