Sounds like your pop has a rather warped view of women. And how odd that he thinks WOMEN having sex with more than one person in their life represents a decline in morality - presumably the fact that men had been doing it for centuries wasn't a moral issue! Perhaps he also feels that the fact that more men are now raising children respectfully is morally worse......

You see, the whole thing revolves around what you mean by 'decline in morality'. Women taking control of their fertility and making choices? People deciding that they could be more open about the fact that they had sex? (it was going on in great quantity long before the sexual revolution, but very well hidden much of the time) Woman daring to acknowledge they have sexual feelings?

The morality that seems to me to be most worrying is that people think shooting others is a way to solve anything. Isn't death a little more concerning than sex?

I have thought this one out, and I believe it was ether in the late 30's early 40's.
People thought that their children would just follow the ways they did with no questions. Along came the two world war's things financally took an upswing. And the parents of the 50's and 60's generations gave thier children whatever they wanted. With themselves not having the upbringing thier grandparents had.
And the rest is history, a slow decline is what I figure.

Your Pop is probably right. Among other things going on at the time. My estimation has been sometime along the mid 1960's. The pivotal event that started the decline of morals in general was the act, supported by government action, of removing the morning prayer from our young children in school. Each morning as the day began the entire class stood, said a prayer together, and then the Pledge of Allegience. When this practice of prayer and patriotism was removed it was the beginning of the end. Moral grounding of small children stopped.

We see now, a generation later, the world we live in. Morals have declined and things are worse. When children are raised without moral foundation they become adults without morals.

The sort of respect I have for a moral code that blames everything on women and/or does anything less than consider them people the equals of men, is less than absolute zero.

Guess he's just mad that women don't like to be meek little servants these days. Tough. And that's the nicest thing I could think to say.

I don't know! It's really hard to say!

When we started bringing slaves to America?

When we started killing Indians?

When we started what our great general US Grant called an "immoral war" and stole lots of land from Mexico?

Good question!

Frankly, I think America began its moral rise in the 60's with the Civil Rights Movt., anti-war protests, and the idea that EVERYBODY is equal!

It's slow, with lots of road bumps (Bush I, Bush II, etc) but it's moving, and nobody can seriously tell me that America is less moral now than it was when slavery was legal!

You cant expect good to come from the violent way this government came about, slaughtering men, women and children for the land while committing genocide....add to that trafficking human beings for profit and free labor and you have a foundation that lacks any morality whatsoever, there's no building something good on that kind of foundation.

America's moral decline started in the 80's with the rise of the moral majority and the secularization of the political process.

Great decline???

If you are black, or Jewish, or a woman, or gay, or Latino...or Catholic... or pretty much anything other than a straight white Protestant male, things are far far better for you now than they were in the 40's and 50's.

I understand perfectly why your kind of person thinks this is a problem. Things were so much eaiser for you when "those kinds" of people kept to their "place", right?

I can't point to a particular date, because it's different for everyone, but I think it comes down to when parents stopped taking responsibility for what their children do.

People blame the schools, but the truth is that it's the lack of involvement in their children's lives by parents that created the problem. Too busy working to deal with their families...

Then they blame everyone else in society for how they turned out. Too much MTV, too many drugs, too much violence, blah blah blah.

Just goes to show, you need a license to fish, but any idiot can be a parent.

Hmmm, I wonder what year you were born in and how disrespectful you are. In every generation people have been bitching about declining moral and the collapse of civilization.
----------example---
The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they allow disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children now are tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.
