The trees are like hair, river deltas look alot like nerve endings, the crust is like skin, the mantle is like muscle, we are like cancer, and were creating its temperature to rise (fever). Im sure organisms on us dont understand or have been inside us. Earth even has a sort of immune system. The atmosphere stops most foreign objects, and lightning turns 02 into 03 strengthening and repairing the atmosphere

Yes,with the Sound of Music, ha ha.And also due to being composed of zillions upon zillions of various living organisms. Even rocks may have a sort of "consciousness" , but of course they are much slower on the uptake than humans are.Traditionally, Native Americans have held this point of view. Not so the average white man, who believes in dominating and subduing the earth. And now, sadly, we are paying for heeding this Biblical injunction.

Yes it IS a living organism and we are a part of it.
Living creatures are all a part of its central nervous system. We are the eyes, ear, touch and taste for her.
Just as all the cells in your body act independantly yet are part of the whole.
This is why we refer to her as Mother Earth. This is not religion, this is fact.
James Lovelock has done some impressive work on this.
The Gaia Hypothesis.

Seeing as it is very difficult to give an irrefutable answer to the question "What is life," you could very easily argue that the earth is alive. In fact, there is a scientific, but controversial, theory called Gaia which purports this. But I'm speaking scientifically here, not spiritually. For further information check out Lynn Margulis and Dorion Sagan's book "Slanted Truths: Essays on Gaia, Symbiosis, and Evolution."

I firmly believe that it is a living organism... and not because of religious views or teachings.
Everything on this planet is or was alive in some way or another. Therefore, Earth must be alive.
But that's just my humble opinion.... and really, what do I know? Let's just forget it and go get some sandwiches.

well.... there is an unproved hypothesis out there that has spawned a religious belief regarding specifically that. called the gaia hypothesis. i find it a very attractive idea. and it actually goes in line with some of my beliefs.
so, yeah. i believe that. in the sense that everything is alive and connected through energy. and the earth contains great concentration of energy.
yeah, i know, that's kinda religious . oh well. lol

It is geologically alive and it is alive in terms of the flora and fauna on it. Although it is not a unitary sentient organism, it will take a terrible revenge on those who abuse it as we are doing now by way of extinction, if we don't do it to ourselves first

It has nothing to do with religion! Yes the Earth is alive, take one atom which is alive and keep adding up around.

Yes the earth is alive but not sentient. If the earth dies, becomes nothing but sandy dust and soil would human life survive? No. We remain alive because it is alive.
