Salvia vs. Cannabis?

Question

Both plants impair jugment. One has a shorter "high" effect... but why is Salvia legal, where as the other is not?

Never did I say I smoke... (fyi--- I do not smoke, my personal choice... I don't like the artificial "high") I simply asked why one God made plant is illegal while a equally effected "smoking" plant is not...

Cannabis has been known to drug authorities for a much longer time, and it became politically advantageous to outlaw it much earlier.

Some people are calling for the prohibition of salvia, but there are a number of difficulties with doing so. First, there isn't any evidence for abuse potential. Second, the plant is nondescript, without any distinctive odor. Third, it can be grown like an ordinary houseplant, needing no special equipment. So they simply haven't gotten around to abolishing salvia because it isn't a huge risk, and the law would be difficult to enforce if it existed.

I think that the legal statuses should be switched. Salvia is much worse than cannabis.

Cannabis is illegle because of BIG buisness and political backroom deals. Has nothing to do with how it effects people. Purely commercial corruption.

Started with R.Hearst and the paper mills, and now Pharmacuticals and the gov't just get too much money refusing to legalize it.

There are so much stuff out there that will never be illegal for you to put in your body, and government can't regulate everything. Intoxicants work because they poison you and the effect causes the senses to work improperly. Life is senses and we want to be constantly in sensation. What a carnival ride is intoxication...

A long time ago the rumor was started that one could get high by smoking the inner scrapings of banana peels. The purpose was to see if the government would actually go so far as to make bananas illegal. It didn't cause you can't (get high smoking that stuff). Even if you could, would they? Nope. You can't regulate everything that someone will poison themselves with to intentionally get intoxicated. If the different organized crime groups started importing paint for "huffers" and that caused problems one might see a time when paint materials, or glue, or solvents where controlled. But it is just a bunch of maladjusted people who rapidly hurt themselves so severely before they were caught (brain and liver damage happens so fast that after just a few real bad nights getting high on paint will leave you profoundly damaged. And at that point the users will just keep going back no matter what, short of chaining them to a toilet. Salvia? You know and I know that people who just have to smoke something or pop or snort or drink, people who have given themselves permission to get intoxicated, really do have some issues to get right with themselves. If you want to get high you want to be someplace else because (insert here any of a million reasons). STOP smoking Salvia. It will hurt you permanently. Just like pot. Now I have a thousand people mad at me and saying I am a liar. I smoked pot. I have a joint tattooed on my arm. I always swore I would always smoke pot. I was told I would regret it (the tattoo and the joint). I was told I would get caught as it is illegal. I was told that it leads to other things (give yourself permission to do one thing and I promise you will do others, many others). I tried banana peals. I tried it all. Everything I said came true, EVERYTHING. And it will for you also if you give yourself permission. I have said goodbye to a lot of people in my life, who have died in all the ways you hear about, fast and slow, 3 this year (lat 2 months) and I haven't done drugs in a very long time, they never stopped. They will never know how wonderful their children grew up to be or all the good and bad times we all saw without them. Kids always remember, but they go on and what ends up happening is that they get known as the kid whose Dad overdosed, never to be away from hearing that whispered behind their backs as their mom's struggle to make ends meet to get them school shoes for the start of September classes. Still with me here? Good for you, cause you have hope. Stop smoking things. It took me a full year of not smoking pot (or doing anything, 1 to 2 beers on occasion) before I felt clear headed and I could really really tell the difference it was that huge. If you give yourself permission you will hurt your brain, such a beautiful and very very delicate thing, and what a wonderful thing it is, and so is life. If you let yourself do all that stuff the damage you are doing is almost irreparable. The mind and thinking is all a huge super sensitive interaction of very numerous and complex chemicals in delicate ever changing tissues. Your brain chemicals get changed and don't work right, and are not in the same concentrations as needed. The wrong intoxicants also cause addiction, physical and psychological and you can not believe how horrible life is when you are sick from not having money to by drugs or alcohol. Withdrawal. The horror you will feel when your best friend in the world is dead. Or even just a friend. Overdose. Drunk driving. It all starts with a couple of 12 year old kids drying a banana peel after school for a laugh. Or pulling up Moms Salvia plants in the garden (rabbit's mom! Honest!)
