Well the thing with 60,s mustangs is the rear ends were very bad for rusting out of them,But they are very nice rides except for that problem.Finding one with a solid frame ( which means one that has been taken care of properly ) and under 120k miles for 5000,you might get lucky but i wouldnt expect it to be to appealing to the eyes.

You could find one, but with a classic, forget mileage. Just about any Mustang from the 60's has more than 120000 miles. Look for something that is mechanically sound. $5000 can get you a good running 6 cylinder coupe in good shape. A V8 will cost more, expect to be able to find one that may run well, but will need cosmetics (i.e. paint, upholstery). Not sure where you are, but here in Southern California these are the kinds of prices I see for classic Mustangs.

You really should think about something newer. For a first time driver, a classic is not a good choice. You have antique drum brakes which are no where near as efficient or safe as modern brakes. You might have manual steering, no air bags, old designs on the seat belts, no crumple zones, etc. etc. etc. Safety for a first time driver should be your first concern and an old Mustang isn't going to be a safe car.

Well, getting one for $5000 or less can be done, but most likely will need at least some work. Try online selling sites like:
http://www.collectorcartraderonline.com/
http://www.craigslist.org/
Do your homework on these cars and their issues. I recommend subscribing to a magazine dedicated to older Mustangs, and join a local Mustang club. Good deals can be had, but be aware that their popularity is going to drive the prices up. Good luck!

$5000 isnt much when dealing with the older mustangs. if you look around, go for a solid body and frame first and then the engine and then looks. looks are cosmetic and can be repaired later. a solid engine is important but if the frame is rusted then the motor will not do you any good. all you have now is a rusted piece of crap. if you are patient enough, you will find what you are looking for, but if your not, then you are setting yourself up to get burned.

it relatively is the gruesome 365 days for early cougars. It sounds like a wanna be Torino. The cougars after 1970 have been on condition that gruesome nostril on it. i admire the faster years of cougars yet from seventy one on they are butt gruesome Mustangs are over rated, yet they are well worth a hell of so plenty extra desirable than Cougars are. I very own a 1969 Chevy Camaro SS

Search e-bay. A dime a dozen in So Cal.
I have bought and sold many 60's stangs with inline 6's for less than $3500
Or look on craigslist
