Wear something to please your boyfriend! Don't worry about what other people are going to wear.
The ship I served on, 1961-1963, had our reunion in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. We went to a graduation at Great Lakes.
The first tip is arriving early, the traffic backs up for miles because of the security checks to get onto the base. We were lucky, being a bunch of old Navy vets. We got special treatment with the head Master At Arms getting on our bus and getting us through it all.
The graduation is held in a big air conditioned drill hall, like a really big garage. You will sit in bleachers; the early arrivers get the lower deck closer to the action. The hall is not big enough for the troops to pass in review. The commanding officer of RTC will pass the troops for review. You will get speeches form the commander and other dignitaries. You will get presented the outstanding recruits.
They will present all the state flags. You will get music from the Navy band.
The whole thing takes about 3 hours. Then you will be let lose to go outside and search for your boyfriend in all the sailors out there.
We went to a catered lunch on base, they treat vets pretty good.
You can stop reading now if you want.
I just wanted to tell you the difference 45 years make.
When I went through boot camp, 1959, we had to carry a Springfield rifle everywhere we went, for 9 weeks. Graduation was held outside on a big parade field. We marched in review, with that 13 lb Springfield, before the commander of RTC and whoever else was there.
Have a great time.

Depending on where he graduates from, you will likely be in an auditorium or amphitheater. I would plan accordingly for the weather, and secondly, it is a pretty neat sight to see.
There is a lot of marching, alot of pomp and circumstance and there is alot of brass music played by Navy bands. It is about the transition of a boy into a man, or a young woman into a miltary fighting machine, for the most part, and it IS a big deal. The military takes young men and women and turns them into responsible adults, on the average.
I think you are in for an interesting experience but it might be wise to bring a sweater, cushion or something you can sit on. Often times the seats are NOT known for comfort.

You should wear somehting that is somewhat casual but also comfortable. Graduation takes about 3 hours from what I remember. You will have sit through about 2 or 3 boring speeches, then about an hour for the pass and review. Then comes the hard part of trying to find yoir man, but it's a fun experience overall you should enjoy it.

Look pretty for him! It pains me to see people going to graduation day all sloppy! It is going to be one of the BIGGEST days of his life! How lucky for you to be a part of that!!
Congratulations! You might not recognize him!! He will look taller and clean cut and SOO GOOD in his uniform!
Oh, but dont be sensitive if he doesnt run up to you and grab you and twirl you around like in the movies, they arent supposed to show that kind of affection there...they are briefed about what to do. At least, that is how it is in the marines.

It's not formal at all. It's outside, and will probably be hot. You will sit on bleachers.
But look nice, as it is a huge day for him......

it's pretty boring. i went to my brother in law's in illinois. a pair of dress pants and a nice shirt is fine... or just wear a dress, nothing fancy. if it's like what i experience you'll be sitting in something like bleachers on one side of the room. they put on a show of flag twirling and stuff like that. it's kind of funny bc the cadets were so tired that some of them were passing out during their performance and literally falling to the ground. you should prob bring something soft to sit on.
