I try to be nice to people and give them another chance and I get taken for a mug. Is there anything in the bible that suggests Jesus had this problem?

You may get taken, but you nor I have ever been nailed to a cross by those we tried to help. Jesus said that just as He was persecuted, so shall we be persecuted. But how I have always dealt with people who hurt me deliberately is I "remember" Jesus' words and I realize their problem is not so much with me, but God who lives inside of me. For this reason alone we can rejoice to be a part of His suffering, no matter how small.......for great is our reward in heaven
( Matthew 5:11-12; 2 Corinthians 1:5-7 ).

Ok Jesus wants us to be humble.. but not to let people walk all over us all the time. If you're nice to someone and they continually are rude back.. just put it in God's hands.. pray for that person, let God deal with it so that you don't have to.
But if someone hurt you like I said pray for them and then tell them [in a nice way] hey listen what you did wasn't very nice and I got hurt(and how you got hurt), I'm trying to be mature about it, so please don't do it again.. etc. Sometimes people don't know they are offending others.. Maybe they'll realize their mistakes and change their ways. You might be saving someone else along with yourself. But like I said before someone is not going to change out of the blue you have to pray for them first, ask God to work in them, and ask him to give you strength to talk to that person.

Read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. I think that you will discover that this is indeed the problem that Jesus came to conquer. Which he did rather well I might add. Remember when he said "I will tear down this church and rebuild it in three days"? Their not laughing now!

I think the truth of the matter is he was protected by his band of disciples like in the garden of Gethsemane. By his very nature, wise and intelligent but not prone to violence he would have firstly avoided unnecessary conflict=when in Rome do as the Romans do, and turned the other cheek.

They Tried to Throw Jesus Off of a Cliff and Kill HIM.

Jesus just "Hid HIMSELF" and Walked Right Back Through them, back down the Hill.

Learn how to do this, and you can be Called a
"Christian" (Christ-Like) not just a Child of GOD.

We are required to forgive 70 x 7, but we don't have to be a doormat either.

Christians are used to walk over other people, so I guess it must have started with the great man himself. He's said to have even walked over water.

no one walked over Jesus...but He still spoke peace into their life (those who were against Him).
