I have an herbal book that uses grams for measurement and I do not have a kitchen scale. How do I convert grams into something I can measure with measuring spoons and cups?

There is no direct conversion from grams to tablespoon since it depends upon the ingredient's density.

grams is a measure of weight.
tablespoon is a measure of volume.

So it varies since somethings are heavier than others.

If weight is really important you can find an inexpensive scale at wal-mart. You can also find postal scales on sale at office supply stores.

tablespoons is a volume measure and grams are a weight so will vary by item (lead and feathers scenario ). tablespoon in metric is 15ml . Prawns 35 x 4 = 140 or seven fold your recipe which is for 20. However four per serving sounds small even as an appetizer unless filled out with extender such as tomatoes etc.

You need to know the density of what you're using to convert from weight to volume. For most herbs I'd guess they're pretty similar, so you could probably just use a ratio. Pick one as a standard and say it's one teaspoon. The use the others at the same ratio.

Depending on what you're doing though, that may not yield the same results. It might just be easier to get a scale.

You need to know the density of what you're working with.

A tablespoon of water is about 14.5 grams. A cup of water is about 236 grams.

When it comes to herbs, though, it's hard to say. Coriander is a lot heavier than water, but cilantro is a lot lighter.
