my nephew has this obsession with stomachs. he constantly tries to pull your shirt up and look at your tummy. then he likes to put his tummy against yours. i wont let him do this because i think it looks bad. he's never been molested or taught this and he doesnt watch anything that has sex in it. so i dont know where he gets this. its been a good year or so that he does this and he'll even do it to magazines and once to my aunts statue. any advice?

It really depends on the age of you nephew. But 3-4 ages understand not to do something when told. age 2 the are just exploring other body parts even there own. i suggest you make it fun with your nephew or his parents play a tummy game example...... make your tummy talk by moving it with your hands telling your nephew a story you made up about how your tummy don't like to be played with. Mr hungry tummbly gets very sad when you play with him he likes to eat and sleep & when you wake him he gets hungry again, if Mr hungry tumbly eats too much he will get a belly ache ~~~~~~~~~ and so on. Tell this story every time your nephew tries to see you stomach give very dramatic facial expressions so the child will understand the meaning of what you are saying. after your story move on to another interest & withdraw interest of the tummy man, like a hand puppet. i hope this helps! I really disagree with a daycare worker not understanding he is only a child the childcare worker should find other means of showing the child this is not approved of instead of discipline. Drawing attention to things that are wrong or unapproved of (to a pre-schooler or younger) only makes the child more interested in that particular activity.

I don't think I would get too freaked out about this. You always have to be careful that your reaction does not actually encourage more of the behaviour. It might just pass if you don't worry about it too much. You can also just pull down your shirt and tell him that this is not appropriate. Another suggestion would be calling a Kid's Help Line. They have one here, run by Public Health, and they will answer any questions you might have. Toddlers do odd things, I am learning that also. We are trying not to be too reactive as we have learned that many things will pass on their own - however, we do make sure that we are drawing the line and defining boundaries at a young age. Good luck.

My nephew did this and the doctor said that it is normal for him to do this. He is just discovering that he has a tummy and what other peoples look like. Explain to him that he can't do this in school. He will grow out of it.

My sixteen month old likes to pull up my shirt and play with my belly button, i don't think the daycare should of made a big deal about this, maybe they just don't know how to approach it just talk to his pediatrician the more attention though drawn to it the more curious he will become. You never know maybe one day he will be a doctor.

How old is he? I wouldn't think it is abnormal. Toddlers have strange obsessions. My DD is almost 2 and is obsessed w/ shoes now, when she was16 months she would pull up peoples shirts and stick her finger in their belly buttons. I wouldn't worry about it he'll probably get sick of doing it and move on to something else.

one of the little boys at my daughter's daycare was obsessed with tummies. when i would come to pick up my daughter, he would always run up to me, lift my shirt and rub my tummy. i thought it was because i was pregnant and he sensed it, but the daycare provider told me that he did it to everyone.
i think it's just a phase and they will eventually grow out of it. just try to "ignore" it because the more attention you bring to the behavior, the more the child will do it.

my son does it sort of. he lifts his top up and he also lifts other peoples/babies/toddlers tops up too. i also believe that my husbands cousins son does it aswell. i wouldnt worry about it, i do know tho the more you make an issue of it then the more of an issue it becomes. just ignore it and it will go away eventually
