I have a daughter who just turned 11. She loves her coffee~~~she even drinks it if she's at camp. French vanilla is her favorite. She adds one packet of splenda and i get her the international foods brand french vanilla creamer to add to it too. what are the positive and negative side effects of letting her drink it. she doesnt drink it every day like i do but she would if i let her. I'm just looking for advice here. I guess its not any worse then letting your kids drink soda. AmI right to let her drink it!!

I would let her drink it but maybe every other day. Nothing is good in excessive amounts and her body is still growing and developing. 1 glass every other day would be ideal in my oppinion

Coffee and soda are both loaded with caffeine, and often sugar. So neither one is exactly healthy. But in reasonable amounts are not harmful either. In fact coffee contains antioxidants. But try to limit her to one or two cups a day, more than that and the negatives start to out weigh the positives.

depends on the kid, and the coffee... regular coffe with cream and suger.. not bad..
an espresso with 3x the suger, not so good...
my sis loved coffee when we were kids. younger than age ten.. i started drinking it around age 15-16....
my girls are 13,, they will take sips of mine, or if i let them have some we just use extra milk.. and never after 12 noon, or oh my goodness they never sleep..

and as for never sleep,, hahah,, the other day my toddler got ahold of my coffee, there was only a tiny bit at the bottom of the cup, but thats also the really sugery bit... she did not fall asleep until 3 am....lol....

I would say if she loves coffee so much even at a young age, I would suggest 14.

But most people don't start drinking coffee til they are 19 or 20.

I hate coffee and I am 22.

My family's custom was to let young kids start drinking coffee with lots of cream and sugar at breakfast.
I had my first cup at about 6.
So far there haven't been any studies indicating that coffee is actually bad for you, so unless it is done in excess...I think it's really not a problem.

i would not. caffeine is a drug after all. i would not give my child soda either. and splenda, is not good. its synthetic. she would be better sweetening her drinks with a bit of honey.
