Flora is the plants. There are many plants that can live inside. Check on the dish gardens offered at florists. They are meant to stay inside. Jade is a good one.

If you have fairly low light, I really disagree with a lot of the above except for the Spathiphyllum one. That's also the easiest house plant to get to bloom in low light. The old standby, pothos (or epipremnum)--the vining plants with the 2-3 inch yellow and green leaves are great. Dracaenas are a really good choice for a larger plant, as is Dieffenbachia. Other choices for a big one would be Ficus elastica (rubber plant) or Philodendron/Monstera. Some kinds of palms are also OK.

The peace lily, Spathiphyllum is by far the best plant to keep in the office. I work in a windowless room and my lilly is always blooming. All it needs is a little water every few days and a few grains of all purpose fertiliser every few months.
The best thing about it is that when it outgrows its original pot, you can obtain an extra plant by dividing it in two and maybe make a present of the other half to some deserving colleague.

African violets, small types of ferns, air ferns are really good, because they dont even need water.
Any kind of Cactus, would do very well, they even sell breeds that sprout lovely flowers and roses, Aloe Vera plants do good with little light also. Bamboo stalks dont need much light or water, and you can get them in many sizes, even to put in containers on or around your desk. You also need to make sure you get something that is not going to grow very big and stay around the same size, so you dont need to worry about messy re-potting!
