Could a dog open doors if it had opposable thumbs?

And would those opposable thumbs evolve, or be created by god? (to fit the section)

By reading your reponses, I've come to the conclusion that my dog is "slow" compared to other dogs.

Dogs have already evolved a mechanism for opening doors... by charming humans.

Our dog can open the door without opposable thumbs. This is the Spirit of God within her.

My dog opens doors without thumbs. Well, some of them, anyway. She can pull down a lever handle with her forepaw, and she can nudge open other doors with her nose. She tries to turn doorknobs with her two paws on either side of the knob and has succeeded twice. I imagine it won't be long before her success rate is pretty high.

Whether or not dogs develop thumbs (evolving them over the next 2 billion years or whatever), it would be an act of God, IMHO.

Some dogs can already open doors without opposable thumbs (provided they have lever handles). The opposable thumbs could only make it easier.

Yes I think if the dog had opposable thumbs then if he/she was a clever dog then they could open the door. Ummm I used to have a collie that could open them and close them without opposable thumbs.

My dog stands up and opens the door to let himself out. He just forgets to close the door after he goes out. He doesn't need opposable thumbs so your question is moot.

nope..cuz a dog is only interested in smelling other dog's butts and wolfing down CanO dog food!

They have no interest whatsoever in opening doors!!!

I know because I'm a dog whisperer!!!
