Can you get sick from that?? I bought some Chillean Sea Bass at the fresh market and I stuck it in the freezer. I was reading recipes for this fish when I read you cannot refreeze fish. Please someone tell me why not??

There are two reasons for this.

1. If you actually bought real Chillean sea bass you spent a lot of money for fish that has been caught and delivered to you within a day or two fresh. It tends to be such a pricy fish that fresh is always considered better.
2. Because it's so fresh, freezing it may allow it to breed some type of contaminent between fresh and freezing and freezing and defrosting.

Not sure why you could not freeze the fish. If you are going to freeze the fish, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or better yet if you have one of those vacume sealers, seal it in a bag, write the date on it and it should freeze just fine - 6 months or more. Good Luck

It will not make you sick if it stayed cold. Re-freezing just affects the quality. The fish is much better if it is fresh, of course, and each time it is thawed and re-frozen it looses more quality.

Any food that is frozen and thawed should not be refrozen.

Even if there is no contamination, the quality and taste will suffer.
