Can someone stay overnight on the beach at san clamente in california? I don't want to use a tent... just lay on a blanket till the sun comes up?

No. All the beaches in Southern California have a definite closing period, basically in the 10:00pm to 6:00am range. This is because there are no lifeguards on duty over night, and if people were allowed on the beach some of them would be stupid enough to go into the water and possibly get in trouble.

This doesn't mean that people don't go on they beach when, it's closed, it just means if anyone complained about you being there a police officer would come by and escort you off.

I believe you can stay in the State Park on the beach at the South end of town.

They will probably harrass you for just throwing out a blanket. But... there are some nice campgrounds in the area and many hotels that have reasonable prices. Have fun. San Clemente is beautiful and not to crowded.

Find a quiet corner and go for it.
