Well there's so much you could do..
my advice would be chicken and pasta, since it's very popular and easy to make.
Just grab a bag of pasta, you could make your own marinara sauce or buy the canned kinds in the grocery store..you could spice it up by throwing in extra things like mushrooms, red/green bell peppers, onions, garlic, spices, etc.
Or just grab a recipe off a website, like allrecipes.com or foodnetwork.com (tyler's ultimate has a pretty good one)
For stuff on the side, just make a simple garlic bread, get some italian bread and bake in the oven with garlic salt, fresh garlic, or some garlic butter, and throw some provolone or mozzarella on top to melt.
For the chicken, try marinading it in italian dressing overnight in the fridge for some added flavour.
You could also throw together a simple lettuce, tomato and pepper salad and put out different dressings for people to choose. Hope that helps, good luck :)

LOTS of suggestions - none with alcohol.
What are you in the mood for? Meat:
Roast beef - as in a boneless rib roast
Broiled lamb chops
Steak - with sauteed onions and/or mushrooms.
Stew
Veal cutlets
Ribs
Pork chops
Meat loaf
Pasta with meatballs and/or Sweet/Hot Italian sausage
Poultry: Rock Cornish Game Hens - the same as you roast chicken. When they are thawed, it takes about 45 - 55 minutes to bake - 1 per person.
Roast chicken - stuffing baked in a separate pan. It takes too long to bake a stuffed chicken or turkey..
Roast turkey OR turkey breast OR thighs
For most poultry, just follow the directions on the package, refer to a cookbook or go on-line.
A little more extravagant? Roast duck with orange or bing cherry sauce.
Fish:
Any fish in season - use the fillets [no bones]. - Baking fish is pretty fast and easy.
You can make a mock crabmeat stuffing with imitation crabmeat.
Shrimp boil [this can get pretty expensive]
Suggested Menu:
Hearts of lettuce with vine-ripened tomatoes and two to three different salad dressings
[you can use the store-bought]
Roast chicken with cherry sauce and/or used the canned chicken/turkey gravy
Homemade mashed potatoes - from scratch
Any fresh green veggie.
Dessert? You can get that at any bakery OR get a frozen pie and bake it. Served a la mode? OR fresh baked apple pie served with cheddar cheese.
I could give you recipes, but I don’t know how you like foods seasoned or what your guests prefer.
When I cook - just about every day - I make life as simple as I can for myself.
When I’m having guests, I stay with those things I KNOW my guests like or prefer. I DON’T make anything extravagant - unless they have a taste for the more extravagant foods. I DON’T “experiment”.
Thank you for asking your question. I enjoyed taking the time to answer your question. You did a great job - not only for your information, but for every other person interested in reading my answer. Thanks to everyone for reading my answer.
I wish you well!
