Fire - ignis
Wind - Ventus
Air - Aer
Earth - Terra

There are many ways to say something in any language, and Latin is no different. Take some words for fire, for example:

fire = ignis (think ignite)
a conflagration = incendium (think incendiary)
(enemy) fire = conjectus (ject is the root for throw)
fire (of love) = ardor (think ardor!)
flame = flamma (think flammable)
torch = fax

Thing is, if these are power words, power comes in knowledge not of the name, but of the essence of their reality. Personally I think you are better off using the words you know.

In this context, I like the sound of "humus" for earth better than "terra"
