Ok, I already have a brand new faucet for the bathroom sink that I picked up last year for very cheap on clearance. It's color is polished brass. Now I am in need of a shower head and handle to match. The only problem is that polished brass is not a popular color and is very pricey. Also, our vanity handles are a dull gold color. I have found a color called brushed bronze, which is a dull gold as well. I was thinking about just buying a new sink fixture and then a shower one in the brushed bronze, since I feel it looks nicer than the shiny gold. But, would it be silly to buy a new sink faucet, when I already have one? My husband thinks we should just get a polished brass shower kit to save money. Would using the brushed bronze increase the value of our home at all, or should I just save money and go with the polished brass?

Something you got on clearance shouldn't ever be the basis of this many decisions! I've done the same thing too many times, and regretted it, not to mention I've accumulated enough "bargains" to furnish a small country. Maybe Vatican City. Really, think about the easiest way around this one. Anyone buying your home in the future can easily change out the faucet, but not the shower/tub fixtures.

It's important to have a bathroom that you can live with.
Sometimes when you do something like a bathroom to save money, it ends up looking like you did exactly that.
You want it to be appealing to the eyes and senses when you are in there.
You can find nice parts for sale at your local Lowe's or Home Depot. It's great to save a few bucks. On the other hand, you should really love the choice you finally choose.

You are right, polished shiny brass is out and stainless, brushed nickel and similar are in along with the brushed bronzes. I would trade out the sink for the brushed bronze to keep it one look and also to show consistency if you want to sell.
