I would really like to make some so I just found a recipe, but it includes 1 package of dry Hidden Valley Ranch. I don't have that, don't feel like going to get that ONE thing, & it doesn't sound too appealing in taco soup of all things. Do I really need it?

I don't use it in mine. Lots of recipes out there for taco soup, but mine is really simple:

Brown 1 lb ground meat and add taco seasoning as directed on package
ADD:
1 can corn
1 can kidney beans
1 can pinto beans
1 can black beans
1 can rotel (or store brand diced tomatoes with green chilies)
Simmer for about an hour (less will work, but flavor is better if simmered a little while)

Serve over tortilla chips and top with sour cream and shredded cheese of your choice ( I like colby, hubby likes colby/jack)

you can alter the recipe if you really want. i suggest trying it without the ranch. if it doesnt taste right, then some time down the line, try the ranch. it all depends on your tastebuds and what you like. recipes are made to be tampered with sometimes. figure out what you like.

me personally, i think ranch is very good with that soup.

I have found that if you are only missing one ingredient, you can usually make the recipe anyway and it will still taste just fine. I'd go ahead and make it, then sometime later make it with the ranch. Or, if it tastes fine the first time, forget about the ranch.

Not sure why they would include that! Here is a link to several recipes that DON'T include it. Give them a look...

should be great with or without the ranch packet, maybe add a little ranch salad dressing at the table to it

I have always put it in mine, I think it adds a bit of creaminess. Maybe just use less water.

You don't need it all the time. I have some every while.
