Very lightly toast both pieces of bread, then put peanut butter on both sides of bread. Next, spread the jelly in the middle for an even and perfectly made sandwich. A sandwich...for the gods.
Bon appetite!

I agree. I think peanut butter should go on first. I think that it's a little less messy if it goes on first since the jelly doesn't stick to the bread as well as peanut butter does. Peanut butter makes a good foundation.

Peanut butter of course. Trying to spread peanut butter over jelly is an exercise in futility. The other issue is that of cross contamination between containers.

I always put jelly on first because you can clean the knife off on the other piece of bread so you don't get any into the peanut butter. I worry about contaminating my jelly with peanut butter because I have friend's children who have allergies.

I like PB&J best when I mix the peanut butter and jelly before putting either on the bread.
If I make a PB&J sandwich without mixing, I put the peanut butter on the bread first.

Peanut Butter goes first , and if you want to make one good for a school lunch or travel, put the peanut butter on both slices of bread and put the Jelly in the middle.
It keeps the bread from getting soggy!
